If this statement resonates with you then you are probably already working on this. If not, maybe you should.
When it comes to managing staff many of us think we know what we are doing, maybe we have been doing it for years so there really isn’t anything you need to change. Have you really had a look at how you manage your staff and if it is still the best way to get your staff performing at their best?
There are many management styles and some days you may need to use more than one. When it comes to managing staff, you should take into account your individual staff members and how they are best managed, not the other way around. If you have been managing staff for a while you will know that some people respond better to you than others, but have you stopped to think about why this is? Think back to when you were being managed, why did you respond better to some managers and not others. It’s because you didn’t like something about their management style.
If we stop to think about our staff and how we should manage them individually you will see very different personalities responding to different management styles. If you make a conscience effort to adjust your style to each staff member and not expect everyone to respond to your fixed style then your team, as a whole will work better and you will see more productive and positive results.
A flexible management style should create an environment of ease and simplicity in your workplace and shows a level of maturity as a leader that many are still lacking. Remember, be the leader you want to see in the world.
